Rivian has a new trademark for bicycles and electric bikes. Rivian might be considering getting on the e-bike demand train and broadening its portfolio with a product that is cheaper to produce at scale than electric pickup trucks and in line with its targeted demographic.
Rivian had nothing to say on the matter.
The e-bike industry saw a growth rate of 240% in the 12 months leading up to July, and other automakers are starting to see the value in the product. The two new e-bikes that were launched last year were designed with the spirit of the Taycan Cross Turismo. BMW has plans to produce several e-bikes and other micromobility vehicles, as well as the all-electric CE 04 scooter.
Rivian, which went public last month, is planning to use some of the $13.7 billion it raised to double its production capacity and make battery cells, which can be used in batteries for other types of vehicles.
Rivian wants to expand the use of its trademark to include the following:
Electric bicycle components specially adapted for electric bicycles include battery packs, motor controllers, electric motors, throttle controls, pedal assist sensors, display consoles, wiring harnesses, cassettes, chains, and bicycle frames.
Rivian has filed a patent for an integrated tailgate cargo system that will allow drivers to carry a bike in their pickup without losing bed space. Maybe the company wants to design the whole package for the eco-conscious rugged American explorer, which is why it likes to provide accessories for its R1T truck.
