NHL rules on Rick Bowness' stick-swinging tirade following defeat, fines Dallas Stars coach $25,000

The NHL fined Dallas Stars coach Rick Bowness $25,000 for his actions after the loss to the Blues.

Bowness slashed the stick around the bench twice, after watching the Blues rally with two power-play goals in the last minute of regulation, while getting the benefit of some questionable officials.

Bowness' fine money will be paid to the NHL Foundation if he doesn't appeal the decision.

Ryan O'Reilly and Jordan Kyrou scored 18 seconds apart to give the Blues a win.

Bowness was upset by a missed penalty call on the Blues, as well as the Stars' tying goal by O'Reilly, who tripped him up after grabbing the stick of Heiskanen. Heiskanen received a delayed penalty after he slashed Kyrou. The game was decided on the power play.

"If you're watching the game, you can see what happened," Bowness said. They pulled him down. He grabbed his stick and pulled him down. That's what I think. They got lucky.

His players agreed.

"After the game, the coach told us that it was a perfect road game for us," Robertson said. We tried to limit their chances. It's hockey at the end of the game. We're trying to build on being a good road team, and this was something to build off of.

O'Reilly scored with Jani Hakanpaa in the penalty box for a hooking infraction that he took in the third period. Heiskanen's delayed penalty was called while the Stars were short-handed, and Hakanpaa left the penalty box after O'Reilly's goal, only to be replaced by Heiskanen.

Kyrou scored the game-winning goal with 29 seconds left in regulation by banking the puck off Hakanpaa and into the Dallas net.

O'Reilly said it was "just chaos".

Bowness said that the Stars deserved a better result from their effort on the road. He said that the second goal went in off our feet after a broken stick on a penalty kill. The breaks of the game. We played a hockey game. We deserved better. We did. We played three games in three and a half days. We fought hard. We deserved better.

The work of St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington was praised by Bowness. He said that he gave them a chance to win. They took advantage of the breaks at the end of the game.

Dallas had a four-game winning streak. It was the fourth win in five games.
