Yellowjackets has no business being as good as it is.
We're grateful for a show that's twisted and intriguing, but so much could have gone wrong that it's actually beautifully right. Since the premiere of the series, we have been given fresh plot and character work to look forward to. We're going to ruin it, so take care.
After she stabbed Adam, she returned home to find her journals back in the safe, and realized she never suspected the person she shared that closet with. It takes Jeff less than 30 seconds after she says "Do you have any idea where this glitter came from?" to give up the ghost.
Jeff turning out to be the blackmailer is nothing more than a lie. It did seem a bit unlikely that the Yellowjackets' tormenter was leaving Shauna out of it because he has a crush on her. Who would have thought of that immediately? The police. This is the definition of hearing hoofbeats and thinking of horses. Jeffrey, what are you doing?
Jeff is an adorable blackmailer because he's terrible at it. He goes after them even though he doesn't have the money, and he knows what happened in the woods. Did he think using the symbol would make cannibals afraid? Is it possible that Nat would let him live if they knew he had a loaded gun?

Too many TV shows have conflict because of characters not acting like themselves. We take that for granted because we're still getting to know the characters, but Yellowjackets has never been guilty of this. In her recaps, autostraddle's Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya notes that she is bored and longing for excitement, and that she is a bad liar.
The real Jeff was shown in episode 9 of Yellowjackets, which is the same Jeff we've known all along. The show kept him on the edge of TV drama's favorite tropes: Secrets, infidelity, and male rage that would undoubtedly rear its head when he learned about Shauna's affair and everything that really happened in the woods. At least some of it had to be true, but it turns out that's not Jeff.
The real Jeff Sadecki enlisted loan sharks to help keep his furniture store afloat, because he was obsessed with his store. The real Jeff has been aware of his wife's diet for years and loves her. Jeff barely bats an eye when he finds out that his wife cheated on him and then stabbed him. He was going to take the fall for it. Jeff wanted a date night at the book club, but it doesn't exist. We are the real Jeff.
He has to explain to the people if he killed Travis.
