The Miami Dolphins players sprinted off the sideline to celebrate in the end zone before running off the field at Hard Rock Stadium. They finished the season with a 9-8 record despite not being in the playoffs.
After the game, Brian Flores was not asked about his job security. He was asked what it meant to sweep the team he used to play for. He was asked how it felt to finish the season. He was asked if he was confident in his ability to build for the next season.
He was expected to enter next season with one of the hottest seats in the NFL, but it would still be his seat.
Flores said that he was enjoying this win. We'll get into those things in the future. Just trying to enjoy the moment.

The Dolphins fired Flores 12 hours later, after owner Stephen Ross said the coach was not collaborating properly at an organizational level.
Ross said that an organization can only function if it is collaborative. I don't think it would take to win consistently at the NFL level if we were working well as an organization.
The firing was a surprise because the Miami Dolphins tied the Kansas City Chiefs for the best in the NFL during that time. The Dolphins finished with a winning record after starting 1-8. The three-year tenure of Flores ended with a 24-25 record and no playoff appearances, but also delivered Miami's first two winning seasons since 2003
Ross said it was a facade.
According to Jeff Darlington, Ross' decision was about relationships and Flores' inability to sustain them. His time with the Dolphins was marked by constant turnover, with different offensive and defensive coordinators in each year, as well as four offensive line coaches.
The Dolphins' next coach can't afford to make a mistake like the one Ross made with his decision to keep Chris Grier as general manager.
Priority one is to fix a bad offense in 2021. The categories that Miami ranked better than 21st in were passing yards per game and third down conversions. Miami hasn't had a top 10 offense since 1995 and that's not a problem for the team's next head coach.
The process begins with deciding what to do with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was efficient, albeit unspectacular, in his second season.

The Get Up crew was surprised by the decision of the Dolphins to fire Brian Flores.
The relationship between Flores and Tagovailoa deteriorated as the second-year quarterback weathered rumors about the team's interest in Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who asked for a trade in January before 22 lawsuits, with accusations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, were filed against him. The quarterback position played no role in the decision to fire Flores, but that doesn't mean Tagovailoa won't be a concern for Miami's next head coach.
"I have a lot of confidence in Tua, but it's really going to be dependent on the next head coach, and the direction that he wants to take at that position," Ross said.
The Dolphins allowed the second-fewest points in the league over the final nine weeks and Flores was an important part of that production. The defense allowed the fourth-most points per game in the first eight weeks of the season. Someone had to take the blame for that.
The Dolphins went 15 seasons without a losing season. They have finished above.500 five times since that streak ended. Over the past two decades, they've turned to nine coaches, interim or full-time, to end that cycle.
The cycle begins again this winter.
