Apple doesn’t care for the metaverse — and that’s totally fine

There is a rumor that Apple is not building a metaverse. According to Mark Gurman, the tech giant thinks the idea of crafting its own virtual environment is off-limits despite aiming to release a mixed reality headset this year.

I would be shocked to hear the word metaverse when Apple announces its headset. The idea of a completely virtual world where users can escape is off-limits from Apple, Gurman said in his newsletter.

I am relieved that another company has a definition of the metaverse. Even if Apple is not building a metaverse, it doesn't matter.

There are already many metaverses out there, and they would love to be on Apple's platform. App developers want to be on the App Store to get the most traction.

I don't think the scenario will be different for the metaverse developers: Apple only needs to build compelling hardware to enable people to explore these virtual spaces, not build them.

The fight with Apple was motivated by the ambitions of the company's CEO, Tim Sweeney. Before the case began, the app store was dominated by games. Apple can give developers a base and give them money off in-app purchases.

Party Worlds has a feature called the metaverse. More people could have experienced it if it were on the phone.

Apple doesn't need to create its own version of Metaverse because it has mostly provided a platform to developers. You will be able to download your favorite metaverse from the App Store. If you don't have a leg-less Apple memoji, it's okay.

Most metaverses don't know how to depict legs in virtual worlds.

Gurman pointed out that Apple will use its first headset for bursts of gaming, communication, and content consumption. Other companies have said that it doesn't sound too far off. What if there is no Apple branding? The company will make money.

There is a lot of speculation and reports on how metaverses could be problematic places filled with racism and sexism. Apple, which believes in maintaining a clean image, might not want to get involved in the hassle of moderation.

We don't need to worry about another metaverse because we might see iVerse on Apple glasses someday.
