You Can Join FaceTime Calls on an Xbox but Not an Apple TV

It is possible to join a call from their TV using an Xbox, which is not possible on the Apple TV, according to a person on the internet.

In a post, user U/JavonTEvans explained how they are able to make calls on their TV using an XBOX. They can join a call with a link from their email, and open an email with a link from their phone.

JavonTEvans has a TV setup.

The setup can be done from any device with either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome installed. Apple introduced a way for users of non-Apple devices, such as Windows PCs and phones, to join FaceTime calls easily, with no need for a dedicated app.

Since Apple TVs don't have a FaceTime app, additional ports to connect a camera, or a browser to open links, Apple's own TV device is unable to make FaceTime calls. The video feed from the host device's camera will still be streamed from the Apple TV, even if the user chooses to use AirPlay to make a call from another device.

Multiple reports claimed that Apple was working on a device that could feature a camera and support calls from the iPad and Apple TV. This appears to be supported by the Apple adding the FaceTime and iMessage frameworks, as well as AVFCapture for capturing images, to the underlying software that runs on the HomePod, in a move that could accommodate a future combined device.
