Body Temp Sensor in Apple Watch Series 8 Looking Unlikely, Suggests Gurman

Mark Gurman, a well- connected reporter for the financial publication, has made comments that suggest that Apple's plan to add a body temperature sensor to the Apple Watch Series 8 is unlikely.

The body temperature sensor that was supposed to be added to the Apple Watch Series 7 did not happen, with a report in June saying it would be added in the next update. The Apple Watch Series 8 will have body temperature sensor, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Gurman advises against expecting any of the rumored Apple Watch features, such as body temperature, blood pressure and blood sugar sensors.

The body temperature was on this year's agenda, but chatter has slowed down recently. I wouldn't be surprised if blood pressure doesn't come in until at least two to three years after that.

When it arrives, a body temperature measuring function for Apple Watch would be useful for fertility tracking and keeping track of sleep, and in the future, it could also detect when a user has a fever.

Apple is rumored to be working on a method for non-invasively monitoring blood glucose levels using optical sensors as well, potentially offering sufferers of diabetes a way to manage their condition that would be much easier, as it wouldn't require puncturing the skin.

Rockley Photonics, a British electronics start-up, was revealed to be Apple's largest customer earlier this year.

As Apple prepared to go public in New York, Rockley disclosed that it was its biggest client. It is almost certain that the company's health sensor technology will be coming to the Apple Watch at some point in the future, but not this year.
