Amid Facebook Controversies, Meta's Head of PR 'Leaves a Company on Fire'

It's hard to blame someone for running away from a burning building. The head of public relations at Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is stepping down. His departure comes as the tech giant struggles to put out several PR fires, most notable among them the backlash from the "Facebook Papers," a series of damning reports first published by the Journal last fall that included thousands of leaked internal documents.
According to Insider.com, the central thesis of the leaks is that Facebook and its executives know about the problems it causes and don't do enough to stop them. The company's efforts to increase user privacy may make it easier for Facebook to ignore countries that conduct espionage on its platforms, as evidenced by the fact that a whistle blower has taken aim at the company's efforts. Roberta Thomson was the VP of Product Communications at Facebook.

The Wall Street Journal says that the departure of John Pinette is creating a void at the top of the department. John Pinette had been in charge of the company's external communications. Pinette worked for Paul Allen prior to joining Facebook. He advised Bill Gates in the past and ran communications for the company.
