Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reported that the New York Yankees have hired Rachel Balkovec as manager of the Low-A squad.
The first woman to manage an affiliated minor league team full time will be 34, according to Baseball America.

Balkovec is the first woman to be a full-time hitting coach in professional baseball.

The former University of New Mexico softball player became a strength and conditioning coach in baseball and later the minor league strength and conditioning assistant for the St. Louis Cardinals.

She was with the Astros before joining the Yankees.

The All-Star Futures Game was coached by Balkovec.

She takes over a team that finished first in the Low-A Southeast West Division last year with a 73-43 record, featuring points star prospect Jasson Dominguez and first-round pick Trey Sweeney.

The Tarpons should have top prospects in the future.
