Rachel Balkovec will manage New York Yankees' Low-A minor league affiliate

According to a report by The Athletic, Rachel Balkovec will be the first female skipper in affiliated professional baseball.

The Yankees' minor league hitting coach, Balkovec, will lead the minor league Tampa Tarpons, according to The Athletic.

Balkovec was a minor league strength and conditioning coach for the St. Louis Cards from 2011 to '15 and then the Latin American strength and conditioning coach for the Houston Astros. She worked with the Dutch national baseball and softball teams.

The Yankees have a minor league hitting coach named Rachel Balkovec.

After playing softball for a while at Creighton, Balkovec transferred to New Mexico and received a degree with a major in exercise science. She received a masters in sports management from LSU.

Balkovec told The Associated Press that his path was an advantage. I like that I'm more prepared for the challenges that I might encounter, because I had to do more than a male counterpart.
