Chevy's electric Silverado beats Ford's F-150 Lightning in range, power, and price. See how the trucks stack up.

Ford revealed its electric pickup truck to the world almost a year before Chevrolet did. You know exactly what you need to beat second place.
The F-150 Lightning's topline numbers were notes taken by General GM and they produced a truck that outdoes them everywhere. It's not surprising, given that the two Detroit automakers have been rivals for a century and have spent decades duking it out over the pickup market in particular.

Even though the two trucks are different, Ford and Chevy people will lean towards the one with the better engine. Many buyers don't have an opinion on the bowtie or the Blue Oval. Let's compare and contrast the two vehicles.
What is similar.

There are a lot of similarities between these trucks. Both have all-wheel drive. The two will only be sold with four doors. Both Chevy and Ford will sell lower-cost, work-oriented models with lavish, fully-loaded versions.

Both pickups claim to hit 60 mph in around 4.5 seconds. Both trucks will be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds at launch and both promise to travel a long distance on a full charge of their large battery packs.

Both companies went for a conventional interior. Both trucks have large touchscreens, but neither has a buttonless cabin like aTesla. Each truck has fun capabilities. Both come with a front trunk and a mobile generator.

What is different?

Ford and GM had different approaches to designing and building trucks. The gas-powered F-150 is similar to the Lightning. The idea was to give buyers a familiar-feeling truck that works with all the popular Ford accessories.

The numbers.

You get the impression that GM saw the Lightning's options and specifications and thought, "We can do slightly better."

The development of the Silverado EV was not about looking at the competition, but about creating the best possible solutions for our customers, according to a Chevrolet spokesman.

The base price of the Silverado is less than the Lightning. The Lightning's Torque is a tad more than the up to 780 pound-feet of Torque. The Lightning makes 563hp, while the Silverado makes 664hp. The maximum capacity of the Lightning is 2,000 pounds, compared to 1,300 for the Silverado.

Ford's estimate for the Lightning is 100 miles farther than Chevy's. The higher charging rate of 350 kilowatts for the Silverado allows it to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes, according to GM. The F-150 has 9.6 kilowatts of onboard electricity, while the Silverado EV has 10.2 kilowatts.

The decision.

It's a bit like comparing apples to other apples when you compare the EV and F-150.
Both bring a lot to the table: long range, attractive styling, and unique features. We will have to get these trucks out on the road and drive them before we can declare a winner.
