For the second year in a row, the Jacksonville Jaguars will have the first pick in the draft.
The Detroit Lions' upset of Green Bay ensured that the Jaguars would have the top overall pick in the draft. The last time a franchise had back-to-back No. 1 picks was in 1994 and 1995 when Cincinnati did it.
The biggest upset in franchise history was the 9-6 victory over Buffalo by the Jaguars. The past 32 games have seen the Jaguars win three of them.
The top pick in the 2021 draft was used on quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who went 1-15 in 2020 and lost his last 15 games.
Lawrence played one of his best games of the season against the Colts, and had a rough debut. He kicked a pair of field goals in the final four minutes of the game to help the Jags snap a 20-game losing streak.
This will be the 14th time in the past 15 years that the Jags have a top 10 selection. It is the eighth time in the past 11 years that they have a top-five pick.
Only defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and quarterback Blake Bortles were drafted in the top 10 by the Jags. Running back Leonard Fournette, offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, defensive end Dante Fowler, defensive end Derrick Harvey, and receiver Justin Blackmon were all cut and suspended before the end of their rookies contracts.
The only other non-top 10 first-round pick the team has had since drafting safety Reggie Nelson 21st overall in 2007, is defensive tackle Taven Bryan, who will become a free agent in March.
In 1939 and '40, the Chicago Cardinals had back-to-back No. 1 picks. Cleveland did it twice, as did the other two cities, namely, Tampa Bay (1976) and 1977 and 1986 and 1987.
