'Deltacron' COVID Variant Reportedly Discovered By Cyprus Scientist

Two of the most prominent strains of COVID have fused together in a way that sounds like a science fiction movie. "Deltacron."

The head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology at the University of Cyprus, Leondios Kostrikis, told local media this week that his team had discovered a new variant.

The way he describes it, it's "omicron-like genetic signatures within the delta genomes," which means there are traces of both strains within this new monstrosity.

The majority of the 25 cases identified so far are people who were hospitalized for COVID. Their findings will be sent to the leading international database for all things rona to be studied further.

He believes it's just a bug that will probably fall to the wayside, so we shouldn't be too concerned. He thinks regular omicron will replace it in the end if it is more pathological or more contagious.

Here's hoping he's right.
