One of the main differences between lower- and higher-end devices is the material they're made from. Plastic and glass are the main materials used in the battle for supremacy over the past few decades.
While there are benefits and tradeoffs to both, we're curious about what our readers prefer on the back of their phones.
Glass is found on the back of the best phones. While glass is prone to scratches, fingerprints, and the like, it often provides a more premium look and feel to the device, and adds a certain heft that users may appreciate. The use of Gorilla Glass makes these phones less prone to this sort of damage, which should provide users with some semblance of relief.
If your phone has a glass back, we always recommend checking out some wonderful cases to protect your investment.
There are phones with plastic backs. This is usually found on lower-end models, but some higher-end phones couldn't resist the benefits of plastic. A back that's more durable and less prone to cracking is part of that. The base of the higher-end phones like the S21 and the Note 20 look like frosted glass.
Some may appreciate the glass back, but others won't, so it's rumored that the base S22 will be glass back.
A thick layer of plastic covers the aluminum route that is used on the Pixel 5, so you won't feel it. It would be great if every phone had a Moto Maker type customization so we could bring back rubber, wood, and leather.
