Harry Reid Remembered: Five Funny And Touching Stories Told At His Funeral By Obama, Biden And Others

At the funeral of the U.S. Senate Democratic leader on Saturday in Las Vegas, colleagues and relatives told stories about his fighting spirit and loyalty, as well as anecdotes about his time in Congress.

Schumer said that he was doing the right things to become the leader of the Democratic caucus, but that he should buy some better shoes.

Biden joked that he thought of Harry every time he heard a dial tone, with Pelosi and the President taking jabs at the habit of quickly hanging up on calls without saying goodbye.

In his second term, former President Barack Obama recalled a dinner at the White House in which Senate majority leader HarryReid had a sudden uncharacteristic outburst of emotion, telling Obama he was proud of him before leaning over.

When he was 70, Obama recalled, he was given draft remarks that referred to himself as a former boxer, but he cut out the word "former."

After a four-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer, former senator and leader of the Senate, HarryReid, died on December 28 at the age of 82. The longest-serving member of Congress in Nevada was a boxer named Reid, who held his Senate seat from 1987 to 2017. He was the Senate majority leader between 2007 and 2015, and was the third-longest-serving Democrat.

The Washington Post reported that Harry M. Reid, the Senate majority leader, died at the age of 81.
