Five US airlines made the list of the top 20 safest carriers in the world by Airline Ratings.com.
AirlineRatings.com is a website that rates airline safety, inflight products, and COVID-19 compliance on a seven-star scale. Air New Zealand has been named the world's safest airline for the second year in a row, edging out Australia-based Qantas.
The top 20 are all outstanding, according to a press release from the editor-in-chief of Airline Ratings.com.
The top 20 safest airlines are always at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence, and the launching of new more advanced aircraft like the A350 and Boeing 787.
Air New Zealand is the safest airline in the world in the year 2022, according to AirlineRatings.com, which also has carriers like Qantas and Finnair on the list. Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, and United Airlines were the top US airlines.
According to Thomas, the title was given to the company because of its superb incident record, number of technological innovations and cockpit advancements, comprehensive pilot training, and low fleet age.
The carrier's safety ranking was increased by the fact that the pilots operate in harsh weather conditions and remote environments. The airline excelled in policies and practices.
Air New Zealand has won countless awards and has a firm focus on safety and its customers and over the past 18 months, COVID-19 has brought yet another new aspect to the challenges.
The awards were based on six factors, including crashes in the past five years, serious incidents over two years, audits from aviation governing bodies, and fleet age.
It is not the fault of the carrier when things go wrong, but the aircraft or engine manufacturer, according to Thomas.
He said that the way the flight crew handles the incidents determines a good airline.
Qantas lost its crown to Air New Zealand after a three-year winning streak, Southwest Airlines fell out of the top 20 after ranking 13 last year, and TAP Air Portugal was named Europe's safest carrier after not making the cut.
