According to a report, the Carolina Panthers are interested in Jay and Bill O'Brien for their vacant offensive coordinator job.

Kevin O'Connell could be a candidate according to Adam Schefter.

After serving as the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coach in 2020, Gruden was out of football this season. O'Brien is in his first season as offensive coach at Alabama, and the team is in the national championship game.

Sean McVay hired O'Connell as his offensive coordinator.

Joe Brady was fired by the Carolinas less than two seasons into the job. Brady was one of the hottest names in football when he was hired, but the Carolina offense struggled the past two seasons because of massive personnel issues at quarterback and injuries to running back Christian McCaffrey.

It's possible that Matt Rhule's seat is getting warm if he hires a name like O'Brien. If things don't go well next season, both coaches could step in as an interim coach. After two wildly disappointing seasons, it's not clear what level of say Rhule has in the hiring of the coordinators.

O'Brien led the Houston Texans for seven seasons, while Gruden spent six seasons with the Washington Football Team.
