Trip Report: Pakistan’s Most Exciting Flight – Flying PIA to Skardu

I flew to the Northern area of Pakistan after arriving in Islamabad on the PIA flight.

This flight is one of the most scenic in Pakistan. The captain gave a quick presentation on the flight. Captain Saqeeb Hamid's training and familiarization flight to the Northern Area was also on this flight.

The flight is under the rules of VFR. The video is for the flight briefings.

The plane takes off from Islamabad and flies over the mountains.

There was no snow on the ground. Some of the highest peaks in the world are included in the sky dance experience the passengers are treated to. You can see Nanga Parbat, Rakaposhi, and K-2 above all others, which are 8,611 meters high.

The flight time was 1 hour. A snack and drink were available.

The approach into Skardu was very difficult. The pilot needs to fly between a few mountain peaks before the valley appears.

The area is a cold desert and the airport is located in the valley. The airport has an altitude of 7,400 feet.

You can watch the full landing on my video.

The airport has recently been upgraded to international. A new runway is being built next to the current runway.

PIA is the only airline that flies to the Northern area of Pakistan.

I was given a tour of the resort after landing. Take a look at the environment and scenery of Skardu. It is a gem that has a lot of potential for tourism. In the winter, the locals only get 6-7 hours of electricity supply. This remote part of the world has a major challenge with the infrastructure.

After a quick tour, we rushed back to the airport and caught the A320 flight back to Islamabad. The return flight from Skardu is full despite the fact that there were hardly any inbound tourists. PIA ran 3 flights that day.

The weather god is the basis of flights to/from Skardu. There has been no flight to Skardu since January 1 because of bad weather.

The passengers are bused to the remote ramp. The new runway is almost complete.

I flew a plane back. The view from the cockpit was clear as we flew past the tall mountains. It is a real AirSafari.

Leaving Skardu and the valley of Shiga.

K-2 is from a distance.

Nanga Parbat is the sixth tallest.
A mountain in the world.

PIA A320 has Captain Kaleem and First Officer Junaid Ali on it.

Which flight is better?

Both flights offer amazing scenery. You're much closer to the mountains if you take the flight cruise at 19,500 feet. The flight time on the ATR is slightly longer.

The A320 flight cruise from Skardu to Islamabad provides a better view of the mountains and surroundings. 45 minutes was the flight time. One way on each type is recommended. The scenery and hospitable people are out of this world.
