Kevin Colbert is not expected to stay with the organization after his contract ends in 2022, according to reports.

Colbert plans to stay on through the draft but retire sooner rather than later, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Colbert became the first general manager of the team in 2010. As his career winds down, he has been working on year-to-year contracts to keep his flexibility.

Colbert told reporters before the start of the 2020 season that his status is what it is. Art Rooney was comfortable with where we requested to be. The coach was comfortable with that.

The Detroit Lions tried to get Colbert to run their football operations, but he chose to stay in Pittsburgh.

Colbert has been in charge of the Pittsburgh Pirates for the last eight years and the team has won two Super Bowls and appeared in three. The Indianapolis Colts need to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens need to lose to the Pittsburgh Pirates to make the playoffs.

It's expected to be a big change in Pittsburgh with Ben Roethlisberger considering retirement. The starting quarterback and general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers will be replaced in one fell swoop.

The vice president of football and business administration and the pro scouting coordinator are both considered internal candidates to replace Colbert.
