Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Network pulls show after homeowners allege that makeovers ruined their houses

The show "Home Work" was pulled from Magnolia Network.

Two days after the network's premiere, Magnolia pulled its series "Home Work".

Some homeowners on the show claim Candis and Andy ruined their houses.

They said renovations went over budget and weren't finished in some cases.

The Magnolia Network is taking a show off the air two days after it launched on Discovery+.

Andy and Candis Meredith, a couple from Utah, were set to star in a show called "Home Work", which was about their renovation of a school into their family home and other work in their area. The show was supposed to be the next "Fixer Upper" according to Decider.

The series was pulled from the network after some homeowners on the show claimed that the Merediths had damaged their homes and that their renovations went over budget.

In a statement provided to Insider, the Merediths denied the accusations. Allison Page, the president of Magnolia Network, sent a statement to Insider saying that the network is looking into the claims against the couple.

Bennion says working with the Merediths led to a lot of issues.

Bennion, a Utah homeowner who said she had her kitchen renovated for the series in 2019, shared an 18-post story on Wednesday.

Bennion wrote that the Merediths told her they could do a kitchen renovation for $20,000. Bennion told Insider that they decided on a budget of $25,000 during the first taping of the show.

Bennion said that the process cost her over $39,000, with most of that money spent on fixing issues created during the renovation.

Bennion wrote that the Merediths built a deck over the sprinkler system and created a drainage issue, but added a deck onto the back of her kitchen. Bennion wrote in the post that her home was almost flooded because of the deck, lowering the value of her home. She had to pay $18,000 to fix it.

Bennion said that the Merediths never showed her a budget during the renovation process.

Bennion said she spoke to the Merediths about the issues she had with the renovation, and that Candis typically responded with excuses or promises of things arriving the following day. According to Bennion, these promises rarely came true.

The homeowner contacted producers at the Magnolia Network for help during the renovation. They gave Candis a "stern talking to" after her call, but there was no real change.

Bennion said she had developed a professional relationship with Magnolia Market by attending its vendor events through her small business, so the experience with the network disappointed her.

She wants Magnolia to be held accountable. It's mind-blowing to me that they would put Magnolia's name on the line or that they would allow these people to represent them without any sort of oversight or mentoring.

People featured on the show describe similar experiences.

After Bennion shared her story, another " Home Work" homeowner, Teisha Satterfield Hawley, detailed her experience with the Merediths.

She wrote that she and her husband gave the Merediths $45,000 to make their home better. A follow-up post was shared on Hawley's account, which states that the Merediths told the Hawleys they would need an additional $40,000 to complete the project.

"Hopeless" is the word that comes to mind when I think of that day, according to the caption of the post.

"We had been living in our basement for months at this point, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays," they wrote in the caption. We were exhausted and our home was torn apart with bubbling floors after we were told all of our funds were used.

The Hawleys wrote that they told the Merediths not to come back after they asked for more money.

"People with 'celebrity' status can't have power over others just because they feel like they can," said Hawley, adding that the Magnolia name gave them a sense of safety and security.

"Many families and even businesses have been harmed by these people," she said. It all needs to end.

Vienna and Robert Goates shared their experience on Friday.

The Goateses, who have five children, wrote in a post that they gave $50,000 to the Merediths for a $100,000 renovation of their home in February 2020. The Goateses wired the money after Candis asked them for the amount to secure deposits for their home work.

Candis told the Goateses that she could help pay for the renovations after Rob was laid off in May 2020. The couple said they tried to give Candis the benefit of the doubt because she was endorsed by the Gaineses.

Vienna wrote that they had faith in the reputation of Chip and Joanna and their beloved Magnolia brand.

The Goateses told Insider that by September 2020 they were asking for their money back because the Merediths had not started work on their home. Candis agreed to pay them back, but she kept delaying payments even after they hired a lawyer.

The Goateses say that the Merediths have paid $14,000 of the $50,000 they owe.

The Goateses told Insider that going public with their allegations was the only option left. Vienna said that they had been trying to resolve the issue privately for the last two years. We have a lawyer. We went through all the channels. We tried our best, but it never happened.

The couple said they reached out to a Discovery+ lawyer, but that he brushed off their concerns.

Vienna said that the lawyer told her that they didn't feel that they needed to get involved with the case.

The Goateses wrote on their IG that the knowledge that they were kind and always took the high road was some comfort. "That kindness and our extreme patience were taken advantage of, and that is a huge violation that we feel so deeply, but our consciences are clear, and that's no small thing."

The couple denies the allegations, though Magnolia Network is investigating them.

The president of Magnolia Network confirmed to Insider that the show would be pulled from the network.

The Magnolia Network is aware that some homeowners have concerns about renovation projects undertaken by Candis and Andy. "We have learned more about the scope of the issues and have decided to remove 'Home Work' from the Magnolia Network line up pending a review of the claims that have been made."

In a statement to Insider that was also shared on social media, the Merediths denied the claims of the Hawleys, the Goateses, and Bennion.

"Although we cannot speak for anyone but ourselves, we can say that we have always tried to give everything we have to make anyone we work with happy," the couple wrote.

"We always pay even if it takes some time for us to make arrangements, even if we are left with outstanding balances," the statement read.

Insider was given a link to a satisfied client's page. The user, who goes by "hotcocoareads", shared photos of a reading cottage designed by the duo and wrote that "Andy and Candis did beautiful work" and that he felt that Candis wanted him to love it.

The claims coming out the week their show was supposed to premiere was intended to hurt us the most, according to a statement from the Merediths.

The fact that the story is coming out now is very calculated. We may be able to defend ourselves against the 'Instagram mafia' one day. We know that anything we say will be turned against us and hurt more.
