The former Texas quarterback is transferring to Nebraska.
After visiting Nebraska's campus earlier in the week, Thompson decided on Friday to stay. He led the Longhorns with 2,113 pass yards and 24 touchdown with nine interceptions, while completing 63.2% of his passes. Sam Ehlinger backed up the junior from Oklahoma City in previous seasons.
In three games this season, Thompson passed for 300 yards and ran for 157 yards and four scores. Charles Thompson, the son of a former Oklahoma quarterback, was a recruit in the class. In the 2020 Alamo Bowl, he replaced Ehlinger and threw four touchdown passes.
Adrian Martinez was a four-year starter for the Cornhuskers. Mark Whipple was hired as the team's new offensive coach after Scott Frost overhauled most of his staff.
