Sue Bird is not ready for retirement yet.

The Seattle Storm's all-time leading scorer announced on her social media accounts that she will return for her 19th season.

The Storm posted a welcoming message for Bird, but it was deleted. Bird can't re-sign with Seattle until the free-agency period begins next Saturday, which is a virtual certainty.

Bird contemplated retirement after the Storm were eliminated from the playoffs. She said it was the first time she contemplated leaving the game.
Bird told reporters in September that he was trying to push away those thoughts. It makes me want to cry when I think about it. This is the first time I feel like I need to weigh it. If I feel good, I'll be there for one more year.

I'm going to have to sit back and see how I feel, and weigh some things.

Bird said she was tempted to come back for at least one more year to play in Seattle's redeveloped Climate Pledge Arena. She averaged 10.0 points and 5.3 assists while making another All-Star appearance during the 2021 campaign.
