The Baltimore Ravens are turning to Tyler Huntley to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

John Harbaugh said after Friday's practice that Huntley will start on Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Lamar Jackson has an ankle injury. He hasn't practiced all week and only played once in the past 26 days because of his ankle injury.

This is the first time this season that Huntley has been named the starter. Jackson had been listed as questionable on the team's previous injury reports.

He's played well. Harbaugh said Huntley can play better. He wants to improve and build on his past performances this week. I'm looking forward to seeing that happen.

Huntley is making his fourth career start for Baltimore, which has a 3.3% chance of reaching the playoffs. The Ravens need the Colts, Dolphins, and Bolts to all lose on Sunday to have a chance of beating the Steelers.

Huntley was drafted out of Utah in 2020. In three starts, Huntley has thrown for 622 yards and rushed for 167 yards, with two passing and two rushing.

Huntley had his worst performance of the season in Sunday's 20-19 loss to the Rams. The Baltimore offense had not reached the end zone in a game in three years when he threw the critical pick up late in the first half.

Huntley had only two days of practice before the Rams game because he had just been activated off the reserve list. He didn't have the same energy level after not eating for a couple of days because he was still feeling the effects of his chest surgery.

Huntley said he was feeling better this week.

Jackson has missed only two games in his first three seasons, but he will be out for a fifth game this season. Jackson missed the season finale after the Ravens had already secured the top seed in the playoffs, and he missed a game in 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19.

Jackson has never been out by an injury. The Ravens insisted that Jackson's ankle injury was a minor one. Jackson only practiced on December 29 when he moved from drill to drill with a limp.

Huntley said that Jackson wants to go out there every time. It's hard not to see him being great. He's a great asset to the team. I can't wait for him to feel better.

Baltimore is looking to avoid missing the playoffs for the first time since the season before Jackson was drafted. The Ravens have lost five straight games, the second-longest losing streak in franchise history.
