Max Holloway aggravates injury, out of UFC featherweight title fight vs. Alexander Volkanovski, sources say

Sources told ESPN that Max Holloway will not be able to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the title in March because of a previous injury.

Just days before the bout was to headline UFC 272 in Las Vegas, the bout was derailed. Sources said that he informed the promotion of his withdrawal Thursday.

UFC has not made an official announcement on changes to the event. There isn't an official time frame for his return.

The UFC has booked a bantamweight unification bout between champion Aljamain Sterling and interim titleholder PetrYan.

Volkanovski won the title in a unanimous decision in December. In July 2020, Volkanovski would defend his title again.

Both are perfect since. Last year, Volkanovski defended his title against Brian Ortega, while Holloway went 2-0 in nontitle fights.
