West and Gvasalia changed their names last year. Gvasalia was a creative director for two of West's Donda listening parties, and Balenciaga is a go-to designer for KimKardashian, who is divorcing West after six years of marriage. She wore a black bodysuit that covered her from head to toe at the Met Gala last year and immediately became a meme. After Alexander Wang left, Gvasalia took over at Balenciaga. He designed women's collections for Maison Martin Margiela and Louis Vuitton.

Gap has struggled with falling sales for years and has been helped by West's designs. The stock of the retailer surged last year after the announcement of the collaboration with the rapper. The first drop of the project, a line of nylon unisex puffer jackets, flew off the shelves in June. The jackets that cost $200 on resale sites now cost as much as $7,800. During West's ill-fated presidential run, the stock fell after he threatened to leave the Gap deal because he wasn't on the board.

The Gap was created by Balenciaga.

The New York Times has a story about the year of Balenciaga.

The launch of West's clothing line isn't sold out. It is still good news for the billionaire.
