Benjamin Mendy, a footballer for Manchester City, was released on bail after being charged with rape and sexual assault.

The man is accused of attacking five women.

Mr Mendy had been held in custody since his arrest in August.

There are seven counts of rape and one of sex assault against the France international.

He was due to go on trial this month, but it has been put back to June.

Mr Mendy was told by Judge Patrick Thompson that he must live at his home address.

He replied "OK" to the judge after agreeing to the conditions.

Mr Mendy was in Chester Crown Court for the bail application hearing.

There are three counts of rape that are said to have happened on 11 October 2020, sexual touching on 2 January last year, and two counts of rape on 24 July and two counts of rape on 23 August.

Mr Mendy, from Prestbury, was granted bail until 24 January.

The left-back joined from Monaco for a reported £52m.

He was arrested and charged with offenses on August 26th and has not been granted bail since.

He was suspended by Manchester City.

Mr Mendy and his co-conspirator Louis Matturie were at the hearing.

Ian Unsworth said that a second count of rape and a second count of sexual assault were approved for Matturie.

The 40-year-old will appear in court next week on additional charges and a decision on his application for bail is yet to be made.
