Startup Will Store Precious Artifacts in Vault Aboard the International Space Station

The International Space Station is about to get an art gallery and museum.

The startup called Uplift Aerospace has an agreement with NASA that will allow it to send all kinds of precious items to the International Space Station.

The company said in a press release that the venture is to establish commerce in space.

Many of the items featured in a roughly locker-sized vault, which will range from rare coins and fancy jewelry to "soft goods" meant for space travelers on board the station, will be put on sale. After they get back to Earth, others will go to museums.

If you think this sounds lofty and complicated, you're right. Josh Hanes, the CEO and president of Uplift, admitted in an interview with collectSPACE that the company hasn't worked out the logistics of getting the goods to the space station in the second half of the year.

Hanes told the website that the items will be on the space station and that they will be able to showcase them.

The vault will have a non-fungible token aspect, which will be used as a membership card for Uplift's "Space+" community.

NFTs do not have a lot of utility in the physical world, according to Hanes. We are trying to build that into them.

The CEO said that those who buy NFTs at a low price point will be able to enter for space flights or items destined for the vault. They will be able to attend Space+ talks and get small items from the space station.

Buying expensive computer-generated JPGs of apes is not as cool as buying the NFT bit.

Hanes told collectSPACE that the reason for creating an NFT platform is because they believe there is utility in NFTs and cryptocurrencies for the long term. The purpose in the long term is to facilitate commerce. It is a good system for commerce between space and Earth.

This one involves a vault on the International Space Station, unlike the other digital goods like virtual Metaverse land plots or NFTs for jars of farts.
