Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City defender, was released on bail.

Mendy has been in custody for 134 days since he was charged with sex crimes.

The footballer was granted bail by Judge Patrick Thompson at a private hearing at Chester Crown Court, with the press not allowed into the courtroom.

The trial of Mendy was due to start this month, but it has been put back to June.

He was released on bail until January 24.

Mendy is accused of rape and sexual assault against five different women.
