Picard Production Hits Pause After Widespread Covid-19 Outbreak on Set

The first day of work after the Christmas break was when more than 50 members of the large production tested positive. The Patrick Stewart-led series has one of the biggest crews. The infections cast in zone A. Production is expected to resume next week if not sooner, though details remain in limbo.

The lead actor in the story, Stewart, was not among the cast and crew who tested positive for the virus. The Los Angeles-based show was in production on season two at the time of the shutdown.

The state of the world and the rapid spread of the highly contagious omicron variant is unsurprising, but the sheer number of positive test cases is even more so now that the industry has widely adopted strict covid protocols. No announcement has yet been made about the production interruption affecting next month's season two premiere.

Stewart is one of the stars of Picard.
