A video showed William Bennett on top of a student and pulling his hair.

Bennett said something about being shot to the student, who is a gunshot victim.
The teacher is being sued by the student's mother for stress and humiliation.
Insider has obtained documents that show that a Kentucky teacher who was seen in a video pinning a student to the ground and pulling his hair was terminated from his position.
A Jefferson County Public Schools investigation found that William Bennett made inappropriate comments about a student and that he was fired from his job.
The letter stated that the student, Jamir Strane, appeared to have initiated the fracas by punching Bennett in the back of the head, then Bennett caught the student and put his whole body weight on him.
In videos of the incident that have been posted to social media, students witnessing the altercation can be heard yelling, "Get the fuck off him" to Bennett and trying to help Strane get out from under him.
The video shows what parts of Kentucky look like after tornadoes.

The Midwest was ravaged by deadly tornadoes. In Kentucky, homes, factories, and churches completely collapsed in the hardest hit area.

The letter states that Bennett was involved in the altercation after another adult came to deescalate the situation. Bennett is said to have followed Strane down the hallway and kicked him.
Bennett admitted to saying something to Strane about being shot, which "provoked" the student, according to the letter.
Bennett told Strane that he was just another black boy that got shot, according to the student quoted in the report.
Neither Strane nor Bennett responded to Insider's questions. Strane previously told outlets that he had been shot in a drive-by shooting in 2020 and that he punched Bennett after the teacher said he was going to end up in the streets dead.
Bennett's comments were "triggering" for Strane, who suffers ongoing emotional trauma as a previous gunshot victim, according to a report from Child Protective Services.
Bennett told investigators that he didn't think his comments were offensive as Strane had bragged about the shooting.

The student's mother filed a lawsuit against Bennett and Jefferson County Public Schools.

Bennett mentioned the Kentucky state statue on self-defense and force, which allows a person to use physical force to defend themselves if they believe it is necessary to protect against the use of imminent force by another person, and showed investigators pictures of his non-white family members.
The principal of the school told investigators that Bennett had refused to complete the school's mandatory implicit bias training and had a previous altercation with a school counselor, which led her to have concerns about his performance as a teacher.
Bennett had at least one physical run-in with a student at a previous job, according to the district investigation.
The student's mother filed a lawsuit against Bennett and Jefferson County Public Schools on Wednesday, according to her lawyer.
Bennett is accused of hitting and restraining Jamir while yelling obscenities, profanity and racial slurs at him.
There are discrepancies between the findings of the district investigation and the lawsuit's categorization. Bennett is not seen punching Jamir or yelling racial slurs in the videos.
The lawsuit claims that Jamir suffered physical, mental, emotional stress, strain, and humiliation as a result of the incident.
The district doesn't comment on pending litigation.
