Trump’s Changing Stance On Jan. 6 Attack—From Condemning Rioters To Backing ‘Protest’

Donald Trump initially condemned his supporters who broke into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, but later changed his mind and said the riot was simply a day of protesting.

Trump broke his silence as the riot began with two messages on his social media accounts, asking his supporters to stay peaceful, and then releasing a video in which he urged the rioters to go home.

On January 7, 2021, Trump releases a more somber pre-recorded message, saying he was "outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem" that took place the previous day. He acknowledges that Biden would be the next president.

On January 11, 2021, it is reported that Trump blames anti-fascists for causing the riot during a phone call with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, which comes a day after he reluctantly ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of two Capitol police officers who died after clashing.

After the House of Representatives impeaches him for the second time, Trump gives an Oval Office address in which he condemns the violence that we saw last week.

On July 1, 2021, Trump releases a statement asking "who shot Ashli Babbitt?", a Trump supporter who was shot and killed by law enforcement inside the Capitol on January 6. Hours after Pelosi announced members of the committee investigating the January 6 attack, Trump made a rare comment about it.

Trump doubled down on his support for Babbitt, suggesting she had been killed for no reason and then releasing a statement claiming she had been "murdered" despite the Justice Department saying she had been "murdered"

The January 6 rioters were being unfairly imprisoned, according to Trump.

The real insurrection happened on November 3rd, the Presidential Election, not on January 6th, which was a day of protesting the fake election results, according to a statement released by Trump on October 6, 2021. He's repeated that claim many times.

There was no reason Ashli should have died on her 36th birthday, according to a video published by Trump.

The January 6 riot was called a " completely unarmed protest" by the president despite evidence showing many of the rioters were armed.

President Joe Biden blamed Trump for inciting his supporters in an address to commemorate the anniversary of the Capitol rioting. The Democrats want to divide America on January 6th so they can stoke fears, said Trump in a statement. I say let them have it because America sees their lies.

Over the past year, Trump's role in inciting the riot and what consequences should be appropriate have been debated. The charge that led to Trump's impeachment on January 13 was based on his speech to his supporters prior to the riot, which was cited as grounds for the "incitement of insurrection" charge. Seven Republican senators voted for his conviction, despite the Senate acquitting him. The House committee is investigating the January 6 riot, and Trump and his allies are at the center of it. Dozens of former Trump Administration officials have been subpoenaed by the committee, along with advisors like Roger Stone and groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. The committee is trying to get White House records, but Trump and many of his former officials are trying to block it.
The number is big.

5. There have been many lawsuits filed against Trump over the January 6 rioting. A Capitol police officer claimed Tuesday that Trump aided and abetted an "insurrectionist mob."

There was aContra.

January 6, 2021, has been referred to as one of the worst days in the history of our nation by Biden. Biden said the rioters held a dagger at the throat of America.
