Haaland has 13 goals in 11 games for the club.
Guillem Balague, a Spanish football expert, says that Erling Haaland could join Barcelona in the summer even though they are more than a billion dollars in debt.
The 21-year-old Norwegian has a contract release clause that could see him leave at the end of the season.
"They're confident they can do it, but Barcelona need to get rid of big wages and big players, but it's possible and they're not afraid of it," said Balague.
Lionel Messi left Barcelona on a free transfer last summer because of the La Liga's financial fair play rules, despite the promise from the new president Joan Laporta to keep him.
Laporta said that Barcelona were back as big players in the transfer market, after they signed 21-year-old Spain forward Ferran Torres from Manchester City.
They have not yet been able to register Torres because of financial reasons.
"Laporta is selling a hopeful future, which is why they are finalising a loan from American investment bank Goldman Sachs of 1.5 billion euros to rebuild the stadium and its surroundings, which has to be added to the 595m euros they already got from the bank," said Balague The club has a 1.3 billion euro debt and some of the loan money will cover it.
"He's trying to imply that they're up for getting any of the big players and Haaland is very possible."
How do they get Haaland? They get rid of a bunch of players and then they can bring in someone. It's not impossible.
The wage cap of La Liga might be raised because of Barcelona's reversal of their rejection of a private investors CVC loan.
Haaland has scored 76 goals in 74 games since joining from Red Bull Salzburg.
Haaland scored 10 goals in the last season of the competition. He scored three goals in the 21st century, but his team dropped down to the Europa League and will play Rangers in February.
He has been linked to Europe's biggest clubs, but he believes La Liga would be his preferred choice.
He would get more money in the premier league, but he prefers Spain. The lure of Real Madrid and Barcelona is still strong.
Mino Raiola and Laporta are very close to each other. If the money is there, Laporta would sign some of Raiola's young players.
Noussair Mazraoui, a Raiola client, has been linked to Barcelona.
Haaland would love to go to Barcelona if they get that money. That is what Raiola is telling Laporta. I don't think he's stopped talking to other clubs, like Paris St-Germain or the premier league.
Barcelona are 15 points behind leaders Real and did not make the knockout stages of the competition.
The wage bill is too high and they have not been able to register Torres yet as they have not been able to agree on a new deal with Dembele.
"Dembele is out," said Balague. If he doesn't accept the conditions, they could leave him out of the squad for the rest of the season or release him.
Financial fair play for Barcelona means they can only keep 25% of the money that comes in and the rest has to be paid off.
It is not easy to get back to the top, but they are gambling to get there.
