The work of Republicans who were objecting to the counting of Electoral College votes on January 6, 2021, was interrupted by rioters.

The blame for the riot was not placed on former President Donald Trump or his supporters, but on federal agents.

Several less extreme members of the party dropped their plans to challenge the Electoral College vote count after the January 6, 2021, riot.

Trump released a video on January 7, acknowledging that President Joe Biden would succeed him, despite earlier claims that he would never concede.
