Bid fails to dismiss Kobe Bryant crash photos lawsuit

Lawyers for Los Angeles County failed to convince a federal judge to end a lawsuit over gruesome photos of a helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and seven others.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the judge said there were genuine issues of material facts for the trial.

After a Times investigation found that sheriff's deputies took photos of a crash scene and shared them, a lawsuit was filed by a woman. It came to light after a deputy showed cellphone images to patrons.

The images were ordered to be deleted by the sheriff. It was learned that the fire captain had shown the images to the off-duty firefighters.

The photos have never been in the media, on the internet or publicly disseminated, and the lawsuit is speculative according to the county's attorneys.

Skip Miller, the county attorney, disagreed with the court's ruling.
