Jon Horst, the general manager of the Milwaukee Bucks, said on Wednesday night that the team wouldn't guarantee the center's contract ahead of the Friday deadline.

The Milwaukee Brewers wanted to keep an open roster spot ahead of the February 10 trade deadline because they wanted to keep a productive player in their lineup.

Non-guaranteed contracts for the rest of the season must be guaranteed by Friday.

"We wouldn't have been able to get through this difficult stretch of the season as well as we did without him," said Horst. We made a decision to have an open roster spot, but there's nothing we can do to prevent us from partnering with him again down the road. He was great for us, and hopefully we helped him as well.

In 17 games for the Bucks, the man known as "Cousins" averaged nearly nine points and 5.5 pounds. On Wednesday night, he had 15 points, 10 rebound and three steals in the loss to the Raptors.
