Giving 1000 United Miles Can Help Connect Family With Dying Relatives

One of the questions I get most often is how to donate miles to charity. Unless you want to give to one of a handful of pre-selected groups your frequent flyer program endorsed, or you want to directly book an award for someone out of your account, you really can't.

Give a Mile helps people in need with air travel by using miles donated by members. They have partnerships with Air Canada and United.

Give A Mile is trying to raise 1 million United miles to bring loved ones to visit patients with terminal illnesses, just before the United Airlines launched a platform to let charities raise for miles from MileagePlus members. They have given over 750 flights in Canada through their Aeroplan partnership.

The impact is huge, as this former flight recipient explains, because you guys gave my brothers a last chance to see our mom before she passed away. Without your generous support, my brothers would not have had the chance to talk, pray and sing with our mom and get closure. During the time I was in Canada with my brothers, it gave my family strength to know that we are all one and that life is worth it.

You can give from 1000 to 500,000 miles. I made a donation of my own.

They are close to their goal. There are just 10 days left in the campaign. Give-a-Mile will have nothing if they don't raise another 750,000 miles. One way to think about it is that every mile you give right now is equivalent to the miles people have already pledged. The person who gives the last 1000 miles is securing 1.5 million miles for the charity. It is the perfect time to enter.

Give a Mile is more than just spending your miles. They work with hospitals and hospices to confirm details and make sure that Covid-19 rules are followed in order to connect dying people with their loved ones. They do this on a volunteer basis, with all of their miles going towards this program.

It is hoped that airlines will consider the ability to give to more charities. Give A Mile deserves credit for using the platform to help people in need.

You will no longer be counted for how far you fly for elite status. United will no longer have 100,000 mile status. The number of flights you take will be counted by United when you earn status for the 2021 program year.

Capital One has changed the game. They have made their points more lucrative. Venture customers can continue to redeem their miles at the same rate as before. If you want, you can transfer points to airline miles.
