Aaron Rodgers snaps back at writer who refuses to give MVP vote to the QB over vaccine controversy, calls him 'an absolute bum'

Arkush called Rodgers the biggest jerk in the league.

Rodgers called Arkush "an absolute bum" on Wednesday.

The writers will decide if Rodgers is named the most valuable player.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Rodgers is the favorite to win the award.

If the odds are correct, Rodgers will win the award for the fourth time in his career, moving him into second place on the all-time list, behind only Manning.

One of the 50 voters has already made it clear that he does not intend on voting for Rodgers, even though the oddsmakers think he will win the award.

Hub Arkush, a sports writer out of Chicago and one of the 50 media members given a vote on the award by the Associated Press, criticized Rodgers while speaking with 670 The Score in Chicago.

"I don't think you can be the biggest jerk in the league and punish your team and your fan base the way he did and be the Most Valuable Player," Arkush said. Has he been the most valuable on the field? You could argue that he is more valuable than Jonathan Taylor or Cooper Kupp, but I don't think so.

The rest of it is why he's not going to be my choice. Is he going to win it? Probably. A lot of voters don't approach it the same way I do, but others do. We can't say who we're voting for until after the award has been announced. I might be pushing the envelope by saying I'm not voting for someone. We're not supposed to reveal our votes.

Arkush is not the only one who is upset with how Rodgers handled his vaccine status. At the start of the season, Rodgers told reporters that he had been immunized.

When Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19, he was left on the bench for a crucial game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he railed against "cancel culture."

The guidance from the AP didn't restrict Arkush from considering off-field aspects of a player in making his vote.

Arkush said there was no guidelines. We are told to pick the most valuable player on the team. I don't think it says anything about being strict on the field, but I think he hurt his team on the field by his actions off the field. They're going to get the No. 1 seed anyway, but what if the difference had come down to the Chiefs game, where he lied about being vaccine free, and they ended up getting beat?

Arkush's comments brought a lot of criticism of their own, prompting him to call his decision to reveal his thinking a big mistake.

Rodgers addressed Arkush's criticism while meeting with reporters on Wednesday.

"I think he's not very good," Rodgers said. I think he's a total loser. He doesn't know me. I don't know who he is. No one knew who he was until yesterday's comments.

Arkush should not be allowed to vote on the award in the future according to Rodgers.

Rodgers said that his problem was that he was not vaccinations. If he wants to go on a crusade and come up with an extra letter to put on the award for just this season, then he should do that. I'm not going to worry about that stuff.

Rodgers has been open about the fact that his potential to win the Most Valuable Player award this year was likely to be affected by his vaccine controversy.

Rodgers joked on "The Pat McAfee Show" in November that he was unlikely to win the award again because of the vaccine drama.

Rodgers was behind a few other players in the race for the Most Valuable Player. After a hot second half of the season, Rodgers became the betting favorite, but he was hesitant to declare victory.

On Tuesday, Rodgers was talking with McAfee, who joked that Rodgers was going to win his second straight award.

Rodgers said to not put the cart before the horse. There were some things going on last year. There are some certain statuses that might come into play this year.

50 voters will cast their votes at the end of the season to decide the winner of the award. We already know the thinking of one of them, and there's a good chance Arkush is not alone in his criticism, as even Rodgers acknowledged that winning over voters after the revelation of his unvaccinated status might not be possible.

Rodgers is having a fantastic year on the field, leading the Packers to a 13-3 record and securing homefield advantage throughout the playoffs as the top seed in theNFC.

Even if Rodgers isn't named the most Valuable Player, he would still be happy lifting the trophy.
