2022 Grammy Awards Postponed Due To Omicron Variant Concerns

The new date is Jan 5, 2022.

The Recording Academy confirmed on Wednesday that the 2022 Grammys have been delayed for a second year in a row due to the coronaviruses.

The Recording Academy said in a statement to Forbes that going on with the show on its original date, January 31, contains too many risks due to the uncertainty surrounding the omicron variant.
Los Angeles, one of the cities experiencing a huge surge in Covid-19 cases, was to host the Grammys at the Crypt.com Arena.

Los Angeles County reported 21,790 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, up 24% from the week before.

Sources told Variety that some artists and music executives asked the Academy to delay the event because of concerns about the coronaviruses.
The Recording Academy said it will be announcing a new date soon.

Even though the show was postponed from January 31 to March 14 last year, Covid-19 precautions still had to be taken, including holding the ceremony outdoors, socially alienating audience members and requiring nominees to wear masks. The Recording Academy hasn't released an official plan yet for the 2022, but Daily Show host will be back to host the ceremony. The Critics Choice Awards and the Academy Governors Awards were scheduled to be held in January, but have been postponed due to the Covid-19 surge. The Golden Globes will take place on January 9 and will not have a red carpet or an audience.

This year's Grammys will be held in February. The Recording Academy delayed last year's show by about six weeks after Covid-19 cases began to dip in Los Angeles.

The report says that the Grammys were postponed again because of Covid-19.

Jon Batiste and Justin Bieber are both nominated for a grammy.
