Some wedding-day looks can be fleeting, but others can become timeless styles.

Insider asked fashion professionals to share their least favorite outfit trends, and which numbers they'll likely adore for years to come.

The ball gowns make it hard to move.

The bride wore a bridal gown.

Ball gowns aren't the most functional choice.

Sarah Johnson, the owner of Odette and Odile, told Insider that the puffy ball gown is one of her least favorite wedding looks.

"This style is impractical as you'll spend most of the night getting stepped on and adjusting your dress," Johnson said. It creates a lot of space between you and your partner.

Changing into a second dress for the reception is one of the things Johnson recommended.

The gowns can be uncomfortable.

The dresses are difficult to walk in.

Nic Hyl, the founder of her eponymous fashion line, told Insider that the gowns are difficult to wear.

Hyl said that the style lacks originality. The silhouette can be flattering on the body, but it's difficult to walk and move in.

Hyl suggested that brides looking for a figure-flattering dress should consider an illusion gown, which features sheer mesh or lace accents that reveal a bit of skin.

It is difficult to keep a tiara straight.

Johnson told Insider that brides should not wear a crown on their wedding day.

"If you're an actual princess, I wouldn't recommend a tiara," Johnson said. They end up being dishonest a lot of the time.

Those looking for a bit of sparkle can use jeweled or metallic clips as a more subtle way to embellish their wedding hairdo.

Designers don't like the idea of sneakers as wedding shoes.

Sneaker may be a better choice than formal flats.

She cringes when she sees sneakers with a wedding dress.

Gel inserts can be used to make your heels more comfortable. I die a little inside when I see brides wearing sneakers.

Hyl said that opting for formal flats over heels can keep the look comfortable.

Hyl told Insider that a sneaker shouldn't be the final choice for such an important event because there are so many beautiful and comfortable shoes in the world.

Cropped wedding dresses are trendy.

Johnson advised against wearing a crop top on your wedding day.

"This style is not as good in practice as it is in magazines," Johnson said.

She said that a chic jumpsuit could make for a less risky, yet still unconventional wedding look.

The sleeves can be impractical.

A wedding dress is puffy.

The sleeves can catch things.

Tina Zysk, creative director and founder of Grace and Ivory, told Insider that she dislikes the trend of exaggerated or puffy sleeves on wedding gowns.

"Bishop sleeves or puffy sleeves are prone to catching on and knocking things over, like cake or beverages," he said.

The effects of the sun and wind can make large, loose sleeves look odd.

It can be difficult to pull off high-low gowns.

A wedding gown with a high-low hemline often has a skirt that is floor-length in the back and knee-length or higher in the front.

This is a difficult silhouette for weddings. High-low gowns can look different when bustled, because of the weather and wind.

A long dress with a high slit is a good choice for brides who want to show off their legs or shoes.

From any angle, low-back dresses look beautiful.

The embellished backs of dresses are a good choice.

Johnson told Insider that she loves low back wedding gowns.

People will be looking at you from every angle. A low back is a great way to add a sexy element to your gown.

If your wedding location won't allow for an exposed look, you can choose a dress with an embellished back.

Long-sleeved dresses look good.

Wedding dresses with long sleeves have made a comeback in recent years after being out of fashion for several decades.

"Sleeves on bridal gowns are not appreciated," Johnson said. They look great in photos.

Long-sleeved gowns are perfect for winter weddings but can be adapted for warmer climates by using sheer fabrics or light lace.

Capes are fun.

Capes can add drama to your look.

If you love the drama of a long bridal veil but don't want to hide your hair, wearing a cape could be the answer.

Johnson said that capes are a great way to change up your gown.

You can find capes in a variety of styles and sizes, from floor-length pieces to options that drape to the elbow.

Crepe dresses are flattering and comfortable.

Crepe is a wrinkled, textured fabric that can be made from a variety of textiles.

"I love how crepe dresses drape, they're flattering on so many body types," she said. Crepe fabrics are very comfortable to wear.

The wrinkled nature of the fabric makes it a good choice for outdoor weddings and reception.

A dress can look boring with mixing fabrics.

Johnson told Insider that she likes the visual interest that comes from mixing fabrics.

Johnson said she loves dresses that aren't full lace. The dress has a nice element of both.

Depending on your wedding location and season, selecting a gown with a mix of heavier and lighter fabrics may keep you more comfortable on your big day.
