Premier League to stop twice-weekly PCR tests for players and staff

The mandatory testing of clubs in the premier league will no longer be required.

The league told clubs that there will be no requirement for twice-weekly testing.

The clubs will conduct daily tests.

All training days and the day before the matches will have tests done to confirm a positive result.

The Government's updated policy to testing and isolation places less emphasis on PCR tests.

The UK Health and Security Agency announced on Wednesday that from January 11th, an individual who tests positive for Covid-19 on a lateral flow test will no longer need to take a test to confirm their result. On the date of their positive test result, their isolation would begin.

The focus of the league will now be on the tests called the lateral flow tests.

The mandatory twice-weekly PCR tests will no longer be taken by clubs.

The impact of the Omicron variant has led to the postponement of 17 English top-flight games.

Emergency measures at the 20 clubs of the premier league have continued into the year 2022.

There were 94 positive results for Covid-19 tests for players and staff during the period from December 27 to January 2.

Positive tests for eight weeks decreased for the first week by week, with a record 103 positives recorded the previous week.
