MagSafe Battery Pack Prototype Shows Earlier Design With Glossy Plastic and Rear LED

Images of a prototype Apple MagSafe Battery Pack have been shared online, showing a look at the accessory from when it was in internal development.

The prototype version of Apple's MagSafe battery pack differs from the final retail version in a number of ways. The prototype has a glossy white plastic shell, a different rear surface material with no MagSafe alignment ring, and an LEDs on the rear instead of the bottom.

The prototype has a faint circular outline that indicates MagSafe technology despite not having an alignment ring. It is possible that the prototype is missing something from the final MagSafe battery pack.

A prototype battery pack. The front of these devices have fabric that is usually found on the side of the unit. There is a status light on the front that didn't make it to production.

The placement of the charging indicator on the back of the battery pack is odd since it would be hard to see if you were looking at it or not.

The first-generation of the AirPods had a charging case that had aLED indicator in it, but it was not visible when the case was closed. The second iteration of the device changed this when it moved the light to the front of the charging case.

Apple was rumored to launch a magnetic external battery before the MagSafe battery pack. The company's work on the accessory became apparent in February of 2021. Mark Gurman, who works for the company, confirmed that Apple was working on a MagSafe battery pack for the phone.

The MagSafe battery pack had some development problems and software issues before it was released, but the accessory has had a mixed reaction from customers.

Images and videos of Apple prototype devices are frequently shared online by collectors, with recent findings including a working AirPower prototype and an Apple Watch Series 3 with additional connections.
