Beyond Meat soars after deal to launch plant-based chicken at KFC nationwide

Beyond Meat stock jumped as much as 7% on Wednesday after it was announced that it was going to sell chicken with Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The Beyond Fried Chicken will be available at all of the company's locations on January 10. Beyond Meat has been able to introduce its plant-based meats into various fast food locations, though some of the campaigns have been short lived.

Most food establishments are testing their customers willingness to eat plant-based products with limited test runs before committing to the products. The test runs for Beyond's fried chicken product will begin in 2019.

Kevin Hochman, president of the Kentucky Fried Chicken U.S., said the mission was simple from the beginning. "Now over two years later, we can say that mission accomplished."

The stock price of Beyond Meat fell by more than 50% in 2021. Competition is heating up as rivals, including Impossible Foods, which is working on its own chicken product, and different restaurants are testing their own internally developed plant-based foods.

The launch of the plant-based chorizo was announced by the company on Monday.
