Liverpool's request to postpone Carabao Cup semi-final at Arsenal approved by EFL after further Covid cases

The first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final between the two clubs has been put off after the EFL accepted a request from the Reds.

The training ground would be closed for at least 48 hours after the assistant to the manager tested positive. Lijnders was due to take the team.

The latest round of testing found more cases within the first-team bubble, so a request for postponement was submitted on Tuesday. Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, andJoel Matip were forced to miss the game after testing positive.

The second leg of the semi-finals will now be treated as the second leg of the final, according to the statement.

The first leg will be on Thursday January 13 at 7.45pm.
The second leg will be played on Thursday January 20.

The club reported an ever-increasing number of carbon dioxide cases after significant developments over the past 48 hours.

The League reluctantly accepted the request of the club to delay the game, as they looked to protect public health by not travelling to the other side of the country.

The first of the two legs will take place at 7.45pm on January 13th, 2022, as a result of the postponement. The rearranged game is scheduled to be played at the Emirates on January 20, 2022, at 7.45pm.

The latest round of testing on Tuesday returned a significant number of positives, includingPepijn Lijnders, who was due to take charge of the Reds at Emirates Stadium.

The outbreak has left the club without a sufficient number of players and staff.

"We would like to thank the English Football League and the fans of both clubs for their understanding, as we continue to navigate through this challenging period."

The Reds were without a total of nine players for the match at the Blues due to illness and injury, and have subsequently lost three players to the Africa Cup of Nations.
