Carabao Cup: Arsenal v Liverpool postponed because of severe Covid outbreak at Anfield

The first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final between the two clubs was postponed because of a severe outbreak of Covid.

The first-team training centre was temporarily closed on Wednesday after assistant manager Lijnders became the latest to have to isolated.

The first and second legs will take place at the same time on 20 and 13 January.

The postponement was requested byLiverpool.

In a statement, the EFL said it had been in regular dialogue with the club since then in an attempt to understand whether the tie could proceed.

The club has reported an ever-increasing number of Covid cases over the last few months.

The League reluctantly accepted the request of the club to delay the game, as they looked to protect public health by not travelling to the other side of the country.

The training facilities at theLiverpool would be closed for at least 48 hours because of a "rapidly growing number" of coronaviruses.

More to come.
