Stellantis to transform Chrysler into an all-electric brand by 2028

Chrysler, which is best known for its minivans, will become an all-electric brand by the year 2028.

The Chrysler Airflow Concept is an all-wheel drive electric SUV with a battery that can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge.

If the Airflow concept goes into production, it won't be said if. The Airflow is meant to give a glimpse at the design and technology that will be part of the brand's future portfolio.

The first real product in Chrysler's new EV future will arrive in a few years. The first battery electric vehicle will come to market by the year 2025.

The Chrysler brand has three vehicles under its name today, the Chrysler 300 sedan, the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan and the Chrysler 300. Chris Feuell, the CEO of the Chrysler brand, said that the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid has served as a "forepoint" to where the brand is headed.

The Chrysler Airflow concept is an SUV with a low ride height and a two-toned roofline that is meant to improve the aerodynamics and range. The vehicle has a long and wide track and 22-inch wheels.

The aim here is to show off a premium SUV, a goal achieved through a series of exterior and interior touches from the panoramic roof and lighting that changes based on the passengers' preferences to the Chrysler Wing logo that is tied into the grille.

The real view of what the brand will look like is the technology that is in the Airflow. The Airflow is the result of a thoughtful synthesis of the full arsenal of Stellantis' connected vehicle technology.

What does that mean? It is all about digital content and services, an advanced driver assistance system, and a lot of other things.

The concept includes three areas that Stellantis is already developing and outlined back in December as part of its plan to generate $22.5 billion annually from software in its vehicles that can sell passengers and drivers products and subscriptions.

The underlying electrical and software architecture is called STLA Brain. This system is connected to the cloud and uses a high-speed data bus to connect electronic control units to the vehicle's central high performing computer. The company will be able to upgrade software to vehicles over the air.

The SmartCockpit platform built in partnership with Foxconn will deliver applications to the driver such as navigation, voice assistance, e-commerce marketplace and payment services.

The third automated driving platform called "AutoDrive" will be developed by BMW.

All of the platforms will be in all of the new vehicles by the year 2024. The Airflow is a concept that shows where the company is going.

In the Airflow, there are screens throughout the vehicle where users can access personalized digital content such as apps and entertainment. Information on the screens can be shared with passengers.
