Struggling Edmonton Oilers lose star Connor McDavid, Derek Ryan after positive COVID-19 tests

After practice Tuesday, Dave Tippett announced that the star forward had tested positive.

The struggling team will just have to "see where they're at" after both players tested positive, and neither participated in practice.

The team returned from the league's pause and holiday break with four straight losses, all on the road. On Monday, the New York Rangers defeated the Eskimos, 4-1.

He said it's a daily occurrence with the way things are going. It's crazy when you're playing in many cities and there are different rules.

If he's positive, then they tell me. When two of your four centermen are out, that's not a good thing.

The absence of McDavid will be glaring, as the Maple Leafs are slated to play the Oilers on Wednesday. He leads the team with 53 points and is second only to Leon Draisaitl in goals.

The league's most lethal power play has five goals this season and one of them has been scored by the man advantage's fixture, McDavid.

The only goal against the Rangers was scored by an unheralded center named Ryan McLeod.

The season began with hot starts from McDavid and Draisaitl.
