Samsung’s tiny Freestyle projector is fun so get over it

At the Consumer Electronics Show, the new barrel-shaped projector was announced. The projector goes up for pre-order today for $899. According to the company, this highly portable and swiveling visual lightshow with integrated speaker and voice control is coming to support your nomadic lifestyle.

Olds don't need to apply.

How can I be certain? When I showed the freestyle to my daughter under embargo, she was the first to react and I quote, "I want that." A fake window on my wall would be pretty. A sampling of one teen is correct.

The projector can produce an auto-focused, auto-leveled, and auto-keystoned image from 30 to 100 inches. The translucent lens cap can be used to createmood lighting that can be sync with whatever audio is playing. It also has a mic array that can beggled on and off via a switch, and a firing speaker that can be used to amplify voice commands. If you look closely at the images, you will see a single HDMI and oneUSB-C jack, and something else encircling the lens. The software experience on the Freestyle is the same as that on the smart TVs.

The projector can be screwed into a standard E26 lightbulb sockets for power with optional accessories.

It seems like a good companion to TikTok videos, but not much else. This projector is not meant for people who care about banalities such as lumens, supported streaming protocols, and other such minutia. There is an expectation of good picture quality for its price.

Preorders for the projector will open in the US on January 4th, with the projector going to other markets in the following months.

The article has been updated to show that The Freestyle offers the same software experience as the TVs from SAMSUNG.
