Romelu Lukaku: Chelsea striker makes public apology and returns to training ahead of Tottenham Carabao Cup clash

It is up to Romelu to restore trust after making a public apology to his team-mates and the head coach of the club.

The club-record signing stood down for Sunday's 2-2 draw with the Reds, but is in contention to return for Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs.

In an interview with Sky in Italy, Romelu Lukaku said he was not happy with the situation at the club and that he had issues with the style of play.

A message from Romelu.

In an interview with the club website, the player apologized for causing upset to the fans.

I understand that you guys are upset, I have a connection with this club since my teenage years.

"Obviously, it's up to me now to restore your trust and I'll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground and in the games, trying to make sure that we win games."

I apologize to the manager, my team-mates and the board, because I think it was not the right time to do that, and I want to make sure that we start winning football games.

Romelu Lukaku told Sky in Italy that he was not happy with the situation at Chelsea and talked about the possibility of returning to Inter.

'Lukaku determined to clear the mess up'

Tuchel held clear-the-air talks with Lukaku on Monday, and said the forward feels responsible and is determined to clean the mess up. The head coach confirmed that the club-record signing is back in the squad for training.

"First of all, we were happy that we took the time to look calmly on it and talk calmly, because we were in the background," Tuchel said.

He is back in the squad for today's training after he apologized.

We have time to clear the air and move on.

The most important thing for me was to understand that it was not intentional.

He did not intend to make noise in front of the big game.

There are highlights from the game between the two teams in the premier league.

Tuchel says that Lukaku will be fined.

Tuchel praised the "close relationship" he has with the board after smoothing over the Lukaku drama and revealed that the Belgium international will be fined for taking part in the interview.

Tuchel forged strong links with directors Cech and Granovskaia, who were both on the board.

Tuchel was vindicated for his strong stance after hard work and cooperative spirit.

Tuchel said there will be some discipline actions. He needs to accept the consequences of something that happened.

It's not about pushing my opinions through or the club pushing theirs through. We reflect on the situation.

I was happy that the club was okay with my opinion being clear and I was happy that I had a clear opinion.

We have a very open, close relationship and we can find quick solutions without any political interference and just look at the isolated issue. We left there.

It was nice to be a part of it. It was calm and open between me and Marina.

kaku cannot expect everyone to be happy.

The German coach insisted that the former Inter Milan forward must now take responsibility for the commotion, even though he is happy to have him back in contention for selection.

He said that they might have a smell from it. He has no other choice but to handle it.

He can't expect everyone to be happy the next day.

He's still our player and we have a lot of reasons to make him play for us, and to convince him that he's our player. We will protect him, we're happy he's our player.

The situation with Lukaku is something that Tuchel is concerned about.

Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol is on The Transfer Show.

I don't think it was the kind of meeting where Tuchel told him off. I think the purpose of the meeting was to listen to what Romelu had to say, hear his side of the story, and then take it from there.

What is significant is that he apologized. He regretted what he had done, he made a mistake, and he never should have said what he did.

He accepted that immediately. He has said in the past that he doesn't have a problem with people making mistakes if they put their hands up and learn from them.

That is what happened in this case. Tuchel and his team will always try to be supportive of their players. It is over for Tuchel.

It will be interesting to see if he's in the starting line-up against Spurs tomorrow night, as it is time for him to let his football do the talking.

What did the player say in the interview?

In an interview with Sky in Italy recorded earlier in December, Romelu Lukaku said he was not happy with his situation at Chelsea and turned down a move to Manchester City in 2020.

I'm doing well. "I'm not very happy with the situation, but that's normal." I have to stick with it and get on with my job even though the boss has decided to play a different formation.

I must not give up on my job and I am not happy with the situation.

Romelu Lukaku's comments about his place in the squad in a past interview may have been taken out of context.

I turned down an offer from Manchester City at the end of the first year I was at Inter.

After we won the title, I went to speak with the club chiefs and asked for a new contract. I did it because I told myself I was 28, my family feels great in Milan, I still have my flat there, my mother and my son could come and live there, and we would all feel comfortable.

They didn't want to extend my contract. It was difficult for me to accept, because I was sure I would be able to do more in Milan.

There are three teams that I think are the best in football. Every player dreams of playing for one of these teams. If I ever had the chance, I would sign a new contract with Inter and then go there.

I told myself that there was only one team that I could see myself in, and that was the one that I could not see myself in. I was not thinking about going there, but at one point they came in for me and I asked Inzaghi to leave.

It hurt me that they didn't try to make me sign a new contract. If Inter offered me a new contract, I would have stayed. That doesn't say anything.

Souness said that Lukaku crossed the line.

Souness believes that the comments that Romelu Lukaku made in his Sky in Italy interview should be an apology to his team-mates.

Gary says an apology is not necessary if the player has told the truth, but he must work hard to win back the trust of his manager and fans.

The next steps for Romelu Lukaku are being debated by Jamie, Jimmy, and Graeme after the Belgian was dropped for the game against the Reds.

He wanted to go back to Inter because he was unhappy with how he was being used.

Sky Sports pundit Souness said that the decision by Tuchel to leave out the £97.5m forward was a good one.

The result of the game between the two teams was a draw, which benefits Manchester City.
