For years, Michael Keaton has been open about the fact that he was going to reprise the role of Batman in 1995's Batman Forever. He had played the role in Batman and Batman Returns and had several meetings with the director about coming back for part three. In a new interview with Backstage, Keaton expands on some of the quotes we ran in 2011.
One of the things that I walked away from was that I couldn't do this. It is pretty simple, have you read it?
The misunderstanding between the two men of what makes the character so interesting was his sign that it wouldn't work out. The darkness is the point for him. It was always Bruce Wayne. It wasn't Batman, said Keaton. That was the secret. I never talked about it, even though everyone said Batman did this. Who becomes that person?
We're going back to The Flash and Batgirl. There is a chance that the actor will come back just because he will be getting rewarded handsomely for it, but we hope it is also because these new stories finally go back to the core of the character: the tragedy.
