There is an update on a popular name option, a sneak peek at the jerseys and a confirmed announcement date.

The new name won't be Wolves or RedWolves, which had received a lot of support from the fans, according to team president.

Wolves was one of our fan favorites. We put Wolves on a list of options to explore fully because of your interest in this name, and we take feedback from our fans seriously. We were aware of the challenge of being able to make our own Wolves name because of the trademarks held by other teams. Variations like RedWolves wouldn't have been viable without Wolves.

Wright provided no further information about the final choice, but he was confident that the choice was inspired and informed by the fans.

The team's color scheme will remain burgundy and gold, which was also evident in the brief jersey sneak peak in the video.

The Washington Football Team dropped its nickname and logo in July of 2020 after years of being criticized for being racist.

In May of 2013 Daniel Snyder told USA Today that he wouldn't change the nickname despite the criticism, but in 2020 he changed his mind after FedEx threatened to back out of its stadium naming rights deal if the nickname wasn't altered.

The Boston Braves nickname was used since 1933. In 1937, the organization moved to Washington, D.C.

Washington was eliminated from playoff contention after a 6-10 record in the 2021 season.

The generic Washington Football Team will play its last game on Sunday against the New York Giants.
